AMOLED is a display technology and stands for Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diodes. It is a type of OLED display and is used in smartphones.

Super AMOLED is an AMOLED display that has an integrated touch function: Instead of having a layer that recognizes touch on the top of the screen, the layer is integrated into the screen itself.

Super AMOLED provides an exceptional viewing experience for you. It offers a wide range of colors with an incredible degree of color clarity which translates into far greater resolution.

You have most probably heard about it when talking about samsung devices that's because it was made by Samsung.

  • It is very energy efficient because they emit light without generating heat so energy loss due to heat transfer is less.

  • AMOLED screens do not require backlighting.

  • The contrast in the image produced in AMOLED is very high the black is blacker and the colors are brighter.

Disadvantages:

  • They are made of organic materials so they have much lesser lifespan than LED or LCD.

  • Very prone to screen burn-in, and susceptible to water damage.

  • Costly due to complexity of fabrication.

     

     

However it must be noted that most manufacturers have developed work-around to the problems. and it is being widely used in modern smartphones
